Treatment

Acupuncture

Your first Acupuncture session will last about 90 minutes. During this session, I will conduct a comprehensive intake exam and assess the main issues. I will ask you about your presenting symptoms, sleep, diet, stress level, health history and exercise. I will also conduct a gentle physical examination including taking your pulse, assessing your tongue and gently palpating acupuncture points and medians on your body. We will discuss the appropriate number of treatments, frequency and modalities based upon your condition.

After the intake exam each session generally includes acupuncture, Mayan abdominal massage and breath work. If appropriate, I can also prescribe herbal medicines. Durring the acupuncture treatment a series of small, thin needles are inserted into the skin at specific points. You may feel a slight tap when the needles are inserted or nothing at all. Sometimes the needles will be left in for 20 to 40 mins and you will rest comfortably on the padded table. For other treatments the needles may be inserted and removed quickly. Most people find acupuncture to be a very relaxing and enjoyable experience and my goal is that my clients will enjoy the treatment and the results. People may experience relief from their symptoms after one treatment and should see significant change in there symptoms after the sixth treatment.

I generally recommend that people come every week for the first six to ten sessions. As you reach your goals for wellness, you will need to come for treatment less and less frequently. Many clients come in seasonally. Chinese medicine can be a powerful preventative tool. Coming for treatment can help to prevent you from becoming sick in the future.

Wellness coaching

“Your body is wise, your symptoms are your wisdom teachers” is a fundamental teaching of Chinese Medicine. Every symptom from a migraine to an aching knee is your body’s attempt to communicate with you. As your wellness coach I will help you to understand these messages and to develop practices and patterns for incorporating wellness into your life.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese Herbal Medicine is often used in combination with acupuncture or on it’s own. Based on your condition I create a custom formula. The herbs I prescribe meet the highest quality standards and the formulas are prepared in expert Chinese Medicine Pharmacies. Occasionally I will also prescribe some patent formulas created by expert practitioners.

Mayan Abdominal Massage

Mayan Abdominal Massage is an ancient healing technique, which involves gentle palpation and massage of the abdomen. I use this practice to both diagnose and treat emotional and physical problems. During our session, if appropriate, I will teach you a self-care massage. Mayan Abdominal Massage has many benefits including improving digestion and elimination, alleviating infertility and reducing low back pain. The technique is very relaxing and releases stored emotional tension.

Breathwork

One of the most basic and important tools for treatment is the breath. The simple act of breathing deeply and fully is a powerful tool to release stress and tension in the body and connect to the present. Almost every session will begin with me inviting you to lie on the table and take several deep breaths. As appropriate I will integrate breathwork in each session and will teach you breathwork techniques to use at home.
